This is "Alice?", or the original and way too long title "Well, after this I should think nothing of falling down stairs." - An original quote from the book Alice in Wonderland.

Full view please!

Short story: Art class assignment, a girl is falling of the planet. Took the photos myself and vectored some parts here and there.

Long story: I made this for art class. And I'm so glad I'm finally done with it. The assignment was based on the Romanticism, as you probably know a current from the beginning of the last century. It could be about the desire for foreign places, nature, dreams. I chose for a mixture of the first and the last. An other must was that it shouldn't have anything to do with here and now, it was supposed to be nostalgic, like fairytales.
Maybe quite a vague assignment, but I loved working with it cause you could do so many things with it. Admittedly, I already had the idea of someone falling of the earth in my head for a long time (I saw a picture of Mumbo-stock and thought 'hey.. if you turn that upside down, it would look pretty cool! I took the background of that picture since it was perfect, but the girl in my own work I photographed myself and then pasted her on the bg.)
When we got the assignment it didn't immediately occur to me that I could use the idea, but soon after that it did. I decided to take Alice in Wonderland for the nostalgic aspect of it all. Also it fits with the desire for other foreign places, dreams. It was just the perfect fairytale for the assignment. Then I put my idea together: a girl falling down the planet. You may remember that in the story Alice falls in a hole, into a different world as well. As she falls, there appear all kinds of aspects of Alice in Wonderland: her hair, clothes, but also the cats tale, the watch and the mouse. You don't get to know how the world suddenly got turned upside down, you can come up with something yourself. It's all part of one of my main purposes: alienation. A way different view on the world as well, like you may get in dreams. In the last picture the methamorphosis is complete. She is still falling but actually is Alice and everything is all weird and different. (At first it wasn't there but my art teacher said that I had to include it, to make it complete and show more what I was going for. Sorry for the messiness though, I made it very last minute ).
Ehrm yeah, that's about it. So weird, this is my last art class assignment - I will complete the subject this year. I will miss it.

Awesome !! I have many things to sa about this, so I'll try to keep it short ;P
First, I love the whole concept of it. It's really interesting and I love the way you used it. Plus, Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite books, so I was very excited to see the title :D
Second, I love how you vectored the transition from the girl to Alice. The little details like the brown hair, and Alice wearing converses are awesome.
And third, I think the background is great. On the last square, it almost looks like something you could see on Nightmare Before Christmas :)

And oops, sorry for writing such a long comment !! ^__^;
